Becoming a Member

Throughout the United States and Canada, people of all denominations, races, and cultures benefit from the annual conferences and workshops sponsored by The Hymn Society. We learn from and are inspired by The Hymn, the quarterly journal. Hymn Society members are increasingly aware of the need to promote the appreciation and use of hymns in our own worshipping communities. The Hymn Society has something to offer everyone who is engages in the process of determining what and how a congregation will sing. We include:

• Clergy and Worship Leaders
  Congregational music plays a vital role in worship. The Hymn Society helps those of you who lead worship to gain a broader knowledge and deeper understanding of the hymns and songs we sing.

• Church Musicians
  Music directors, organists and keyboard players, choir directors, and cantors will find that the publications and the annual conferences provide practical information, stimulating experiences, new ideas, and valuable research to enrich the singing of their congregations.

• Poets and Composers
  Creators of new words and music will receive news of emerging developments, interviews with prominent authors and composers, as well as announcements of new hymnal projects, competitions, festivals, and conferences through The Hymn Society’s various publications and activities.

• Scholars
  Anyone conducting research in hymnology or worship will benefit greatly as a member of The Hymn Society, which supports and publishes research on all types of congregational song.

• Libraries
  Church, public, and institutional libraries will want to have The Hymn available as an invaluable resource for worship planning and study, as well as for the information it provides on many cultural and musical matters.

• Singers in the Congregation
  The Hymn Society offers all congregational members an expanded appreciation and experience of what they sing. Learning the history of favorite hymns and songs or encountering new ones—especially in the context of the wonderful singing at an annual conference—will greatly enrich all congregational song.
